Literally meaning Nanda’s Fortress, Nanda Kot is a mountain peak situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand in the Kumaon Himalayas. It lies just outside of the ring of peaks enclosing the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. The Kaphni (or Kafani), Pindar, Lawan, and Shalang Glaciers drain the south, west, north, and east sides of the peak respectively.
HISTORY
The first attempt to scale Nanda Kot and reach its summit was made by T.G. Longstaff in1905, who proceeded via Lawan valley and Lawan glacier.The first successful ascent of the summit came in 1936 by a Japanese team led by Y. Hotta. In 1995, a new route via south face was discovered and a direct ascent was made using it by Martin Moran in 1995.

HOW TO REACH
Mountaineering expeditions to Nanda Kot today typically follow the route through Loharkhet -- Dhakuri Pass -- Khati Village to Dwali Base Camp. The nearest motorable town to Loharkhet is Bageshwar.
- ROAD: Bageshwar is very well connected to all the important town and cities in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. Buses and taxis are easily available from Kathgodam, the major transport junction for the Kumaun Hills.
- RAIL: Ramnagar railway station is the nearest railway station from Bageshwar from where you can commute to all important cities. You can take a bus, taxi or any other mode of transport to reach here.
- AIR: Pantnagar airport is the closest airport from Bageshwar located at a distance of about 205 kilometers. With the available means of transport you can easily reach the airport which is well maintained and ensures convenience.
