The deity of the temple is fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Narsimha Avatar), in the form of half Lion and half man. Narsingh Temple is located in Lower Bazaar area of Joshimath.

Narsingh Temple is the place where Badrivishal rest during winters. The idol of Badrinath temple is taken down to Narsingh Temple by the priests of Badrinath during winters. Badrinath idol is then placed along with Narsingh idol. 

Narsingh Temple Shrinking Idol

Narsingh Badri Temple has a prophecy that a devastating landslide will occur in the area at the end of Kal Yug and block the route to Badrinath. This will all happen when right arm of the Narsingh idol in Narsingh Temple falls down. 

Legends believed that the Narsingh idol is shrinking slightly day by day and scientists also support to prophecy to some extent by finding Joshimath area a landslide prone area. As per the legends and prophets, after the Kalyug, in Satyug Badrinath will transfer his seat to Bhavishya Badri, a temple located at 20 km from Joshimath.

Narsingh Temple is situated at lower bazaar in Joshimath. One can reach Narsingh Temple easily by walk from Joshimath bus stand. Nearest rail connectivity is at Dehradun (294 kms) or Rishikesh railway station (256 kms). Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (272 kms) is the only airport to reach near Joshimath.
