I visited Gangotri Temple as part of a spiritual journey to Uttarakhand. The trip began from Haridwar, where we traveled by road, making stops at scenic towns like Uttarkashi along the way. We reached Gangotri after a long but beautiful drive, passing through hilly terrain and picturesque landscapes.

The Bhagirathi River, one of the main sources of the Ganga, flows beside the temple.Inside the sanctum, the idol of Goddess Ganga is worshipped along with idols of Goddess Yamuna, Annapurna, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Bhagirath, and Adi Shankaracharya. Nearby, small temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva, Ganesha, Hanuman, and Bhagirathi.Gangotri is not only a spiritual site but also offers breathtaking natural beauty.
According to legend, the Ganga descended to Earth here after Lord Shiva released it from his locks to save the planet, dividing the river into seven streams.The river originates at Gaumukh, located 19 km from Gangotri at the base of the Gangotri Glacier, accessible by trekking.
The river is called Bhagirathi until it merges with the Alaknanda at Devaprayag, where it becomes the Ganga.The temple is built near "Bhagirath Shila," where King Bhagirath prayed for Ganga’s descent. Pilgrims often collect holy water from here to take back home.
A few months ago, I visited the Gangotri Temple, and it was a memorable experience. The temple, made entirely of white marble, is unlike any other I’ve seen, radiating serenity and beauty. The holy Ganges River flows here, and it’s believed to be the source of the river. Many pilgrims take a refreshing dip in the icy-cold water, said to purify the soul.After bathing, we visited the temple to pay respects to Goddess Ganga. Nearby is the Bhagirath Temple, dedicated to the sage who brought the river to Earth, located right by the riverbank. The security is well-managed, though accommodations are not available close to the temple, requiring some travel. The views of the river and mountains are breathtaking, making the journey well worth it. It was an unforgettable visit, and I hope to return in the future.
I visited Gangotri Temple in August 2024, and it was a beautiful experience. The journey was smooth, and I found it to be one of the most easily accessible Char Dham destinations. We traveled in a tempo traveler, which is definitely the best mode of transport for this region.On the way, we stopped for a refreshing bath at a hot spring called Ganganani. There was quite a long queue at the temple, but we purchased a special darshan ticket directly at the temple counter. My advice is to avoid the touts who promise special darshan. Always buy your tickets at the official counter for a smooth experience.
हमने अपनी २०२३ की चारधाम हेलिकॉप्टर यात्रा में गंगोत्री मंदिर के दर्शन किये थे .. अनुभव और दर्शन दोनों ही शब्दों में नहीं बता सकता .. मम्मी पापा ने पवित्र गंगा के किनारे पंडित जी की मदद से पूजा करवाई और श्रद्धा अनुसार 500 रुपये की दान दक्षिणा की .. फिर हम सब मंदिर में दर्शन के लिए गए ..साथ में हमने कल्प केदारनाथ मंदिर, लक्ष्मीनारायण मंदिर और गंगा में स्थित हरि शिला का भी दर्शन किये ..
travel during opening ceremony of gangotri temple .. hotels are either filled or have rocket prices. took easy darshan at temple with special pooja. nxt time I will travel in closing dates.
We travel easily till Harsil from Rishikesh on day 1. Have a wonderful stay at Harsil town. Nest day we take darshan and pooja at Gangotri temple. Have a short trip to famous and beautiful Bagori village near harsil in evening. and return 3rd day.
Worshipping Maa Ganga with so much ease was a great experience. The road connectivity, accommodations, weather.. all amazing. Praying at Bhagirathi river ghat in the evening was most promising ..
जय माँ गंगे .. हमारी गंगोत्री यात्रा अक्टूबर के सुन्दर मौसम में सपरिवार हुई | हम कुल 13 सदस्य दिल्ली से हरिद्वार और वहां से गंगोत्री यात्रा कर के 5 दिन में घर वापस आये | हरिद्वार में माँ गंगा और उसके उदगम स्थल गंगोत्री के दर्शन से बहुत ही ज्यादा प्रसन्ता हुई | यात्रा बहुत ही आरामदायक और सुविधापूर्ण थी |
