Q. Can i get share taxi from rishikesh to gangotri dham ?
A. Its very rare that you get shared taxi from Rishikesh to Gangotri directly, even in season time. Best way to get shared taxi to Uttarkashi from Rishikesh, which is regular service. Then get shared taxi to Harsil, from Harsil you can get shared taxi to Gangotri.

Q. Can we travel to Gangotri on our own, or is it better to take a tour package from a tour operator?
A. One can easily travel on their own. Seasonal buses run from Rishikesh early morning. But in peak season, due to heavy tourist traffic, better to take tour package for comfortable yatra.

Q. Are there dharamshalas for stay in Gangotri?
A. There are a couple of dharamshalas available in Gangotri but if you are coming in May-June, they may already be full. You can find many dharamshala between Uttarkashi and Gangotri like at Uttarkashi city and Netala.

A. No, Gangotri temple is approachable by road. You only need to walk approx 200 metres from the roadhead to reach the temple.

Q. Is there direct bus service to Gangotri from Haridwar?
A. I m not sure but I suggest you take a bus/shared taxi to Uttarkashi from Haridwar or Rishikesh. There is regular bus/taxi from Uttarakashi to Gangotri. You can also get a direct bus service to Gangotri from Rishikesh which generally leave early morning.

And traveling to Gangotri in monsoons is a little risky as the region witnesses road blockages due to frequent landslides.

Is any registration needed to visit Gangotri?
