Uttarakhand has declared coronavirus as an epidemic and necessary measures has been taken to control its spreading. WHO (World Health Organization) has declared COVID-19 as a pandemic, following the critical conditions, Government of India and State Government has come together to take precautionary measures to prevent this from spreading.
Centre issues advisory to States in view of a recent upsurge in COVID-19 cases and detection of first case of JN.1 variant in India. States urged to maintain a state of constant vigil over the COVID situation. States to report & monitor district-wise SARI and ILI cases on a regular basis.
The Centre also advised States to ensure adequate testing including a higher number of RT-PCR tests, and send positive samples for genome sequencing to INSACOG laboratories.

In this context, Uttarakhand Government has strengthened the surveillance and control measures against the disease. Isolation and Institutional Quarantine facilities are operational in all districts. To combat the pandemic, the Government has operationalized 17 dedicated COVID Hospitals and 417 COVID Care Centres (CCC).
Public Health Action Taken
- To enhance the COVID-19 testing capacity, the State Government has decided to conduct a 24x7 testing facility in Govt. Medical College Haldwani, Dehradun & Srinagar Garhwal.
- To combat the pandemic situation, the State Government has commenced a Home Isolation strategy for self-isolation of asymptomatic COVID-19 positive patients.

Covid BF.7 is a variant of Omicron is a formed by mutation which is currently effecting China. More than 60% infected in China with this new variant.
In India, so far 4 cases of BF.7 strain have been detected
OMICRON BF.7 Symptoms: Fatigue, Fever, cough, sore throat, and running nose. Cough and respiratory symptoms are also present in infected patients.
OMICRON BF.7 Precautions: Maintain proper hygiene, wear a mask, wash hands, to prevent the infection. Vaccines and booster dose can help people to tackle the virus.

The Uttarakhand government has announced that people travelling from other states will have to undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test, amid concerns about the new Covid variant Omicron.
The Chief Medical Officers (CMO) of all the districts have been instructed to conduct RT-PCR COVID-19 testing for all passengers coming from outside the State at all border entry points. All districts instructed that if any passenger coming from outside the state shows symptoms of COVID, then he/she should be tested, and later put under 14-day quarantine if tested positive.

1.13 lakhs Covishield vaccine arrived at Uttarakhand on Wednesday for vaccination. 317 Cold chain centers are developed in Uttarakhand for vaccination. Approx 50,000 health workers will get vaccinated.
On Thursday vaccine will be sent to all the booths from districts in Uttarakhand. 16th January is the first day of vaccination, vaccination will be done on around 43 booths. Everyone will get a certificate after vaccination.
All these districts in Uttarakhand received Covishield Vaccine as follows:- Almora received 6970, Bageshwar 3320, Chamoli 4880, Champavat 2610, Dehradun 28920, Haridwar 18050, Nainital 12010, Pauri 7670, Pithoragarh 5820, Rudraprayag 2580, Tehri 7160, US Nagar 8680 and Uttarkashi 3950.

The health department in Dehradun has decided to conduct a Mandatory COVID test of those arriving from Delhi. The test will take place at the railway station and airport, apart from the Asharodi check post in Dehradun. 29 peoples tested positive in around 1000 random sampling done in the past week at the Doon border. Of these 25 infected individuals are from Delhi-NCR.

Hotels in Nainital will remain closed till March 31 as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of coronavirus. The decision for shutting down the hotels was taken by the Nainital Hotel and Restaurant Association in view of the coronavirus threat, NHRA president Dinesh Sah said.
