One must pass through the last village of Joshimath, Dang Village to reach Chenab Lake. Surrounded by the lush green forest of oak and deodar, Chenab Lake has relaxing atmosphere and huge green meadow. 

Chenab lake has magical beauty and still not many tourist visit to it. Due to bad road condition, Chenab lake can be reached by trek only to the Dang village. Best time to visit Chenab lake is between May to October.

Trek Route to Chenab Lake

Chenab Lake is a beautiful yet hidden trekking trail in Uttarakhand that boast of a spectacular natural beauty. Though the lake is not a natural lake but an artificial one, it is still a charm for the visitors. Perched at a distance of 28 kms from Joshimath, the Chenab Lake can be reached via trekking only. The trekking is considered ideal for beginners as it is not difficult to reach the lake.

From Joshimath, one has to drive to Vishnu Prayag which is just 10 kms away. The trekking starts towards Thaing Village which is located 8kms from Vishnu Prayag. After an overnight rest, one continues uphill towards Dhar Kharak which takes trekkers amidst dense oak forest coupled with few river streams. From Dhar Kharak, the Chenap (or Chenab) meadow is only 4kms away. The floral meadow complements the lake majestically and is a treat to the visitor’s eye.

Location & How to Reach Chenab Lake

There is no motorable road to Chenab lake and can only be reached via trekking. Vishnu Prayag, located 10 kms from Joshimath, is the last point which is well connected via motorable road. Joshimath is well connected via other cities such as Rishikesh, Dehradun, and Srinagar etc. as buses and taxis ply daily from these destinations. Nearest railway station is located in Rishikesh (254 kms) while Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport (268 kms).
