To promote sports in Uttarakhand and to encourage the sports persons of Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Govt. establish a different department for sports on 13 August 2013. The department of sports of Uttarakhand is planning to construct a stadium and a multipurpose sports hall in every district.
Sports department is also working in betterment and expansion of sports facilities by upgrading them. Currently 11 stadiums in 11 districts of Uttarakhand are under construction.
Objectives of Sports Department of Uttarakhand:
- Providing sports facilities in the state and giving opportunity to the citizens to develop their physical ability.
- Developing infrastructure for sports in the state like stadiums and multipurpose sports hall.
- Encouraging youths for development of nation and society thorough sports.
- Training to best players of state for participating at National and International level.
- Organizing training camps.
- Organizing sports competition.
- Awards to the players who won at National or International level.
Other services which are provided by Sports Department of Uttarakhand:
- It provide sports kit to all the players who got selected for National level tournament.
- Training camps for players.
- Organization of sports tournament at from zonal to state level.
- Financial sport to former sport personnel.

Note: This financial support is applicable only if the sport personnel is facing livelihood problem because of his financial conditions and if his income is lesser than 20,000 per month.
How to apply for Sports Hostel
Every year in the month of May trial for sports hostel is being organized in district sports offices. The trials are organized for the sports like football, athletics and boxing. You can easily get the form for applying facility of sports hostel in sports offices of similar districts. The price of form is Rs. 5/-. After filling the form you have to submit it on trial date where body test and skills test are taken by the selection committee.
