As Uttarakhand is a hilly region and most of its population lives in rural remote areas so making good schemes for them to make their condition better financially and health wise is mandatory for state growth.
The Department of Rural Development of Uttarakhand plays vital role in this. This works also works with centre govt. to implement national schemes in rural areas for betterment of citizens.
Programmes and Schemes for Rural Development
Currently schemes for rural development are divided into two categories Centre Sponsored:
- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act (mgnrega): In this programme, minimun 100 days employment is Guaranteed provided to the villagers to help them financially. This schemes also helps villagers in solving so many issues like draut, irrigation facilities, land development, drainage, flood control, rural connectivity, development of infrastructure etc.
- Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna (SGSY): Now the name of this scheme has been changed and its new name is 'Aajivika' (Kendra pashit yojna). In this scheme govt help to the people who lives below poverty line but they are running thier home on self employment. Govt help them by giving bank loan and subvertions. In this scheme govt. makes each person of BPL family a member of self help group to rise them above the poverty line.
- Indira Awas Yojna(IAY): Like its namesake this scheme is totally based on housing schemes for poor and needy people. 60 percent of the total amount is granted to SC/STs and 40 percent to Non-SC/STs and BPL families.
- Border Area Development Programme (BADP): The main goal of this organisation is to provide basic facilities on border areas.
- Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana: In this programme centre provide road-connectivity in rural and unconnected areas.
State Sponsored:
- Vidhayak Nidhi: In present, state govt. provide MLA funds of Rs. 2.50 crore (each MLA) every year for the resolution of the issues which members of assembly are facing in their respective areas like fundamental basic requirements of citizens, development work as demanded by local dwellers etc in front of development officers. Implementation of works is done by govt departments, Panchayats, and other organizations.
- Din Dayal Uttarakhand Gramin Awas Yojna: In this plan state govt provide financial support to the families living below poverty line.
- Rajya Rin Seh Anudan Gramin Awas Yojna: In this scheme govt provide load up to 402000 rs and 10,000(Govt. grant) to BPL and non- BPL families who are living without house. The scheme is only applicable in the villages which are situated around 20 km away from big cities and 5 km away from small cities.
