Send Enquiry for Tour PackagesFor the development of the project that will connect Yamunotri shrine to Kharsali village, the government will transfer 3.8 hectares of land. The 3.7-kilometer rope-way will cut travel time down to just ten minutes from five hours.
Officials say that the project's construction will begin this summer and be finished in two years, probably in 2025. It will assist pilgrims, particularly elderly ones, in avoiding the five-kilometer climb to the summit.
The shrine's priests are pleased that their long-standing request for a ropeway has been granted.
The estimated cost of the Yamunotri rope-way is yet to finalized, it will have a capacity of 400 passengers per hour in each direction.
Nitin Gadkari, then-president of the BJP, and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, then-chief minister, laid the project's foundation stone in 2011. In 2006, the ropeway project was approved. However, difficulties in acquiring the necessary forest land prevented it from taking off. 3.8 hectares of land for the project have been given to the tourism department by the Ministry of Environment and Forest.
Yamunotri is located at an altitude of 3293 meters, is close to the Indo-Chinese border, and is surrounded on all sides by high peaks. Yamunotri has seen phenomenal growth in visitor numbers, especially in the last ten years.
