We went to Yamunotri in the month of May 2023. The whole journey was a pleasure because the weather remained quite pleasant. We started our tour at 6 AM and used pony rides to go to Yamunotri. The ride costs ₹2,500 for a round trip per person. It took nearly 3 hours to reach Yamunotri from Jankichatti, but the return journey was covered in about 2 hours. We spent an hour at the temple and also had a dip in the hot sulfur water kund. The pathway is a tight and steeper path and does feel unsafe at some points. I feel safer if I opt for a palki.

After trekking 6.5 km, you reach the bright yellow Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. It is believed to be the source of the Yamuna River and is part of India’s Char Dham pilgrimage.Yamuna is considered the daughter of the sun god Surya and the sister of Yama, the god of death. She is a symbol of purity and believed to cleanse the souls of those who bathe in her waters. The temple is surrounded by natural hot springs, where pilgrims often take a dip before visiting the shrine.Inside the temple, there is a black marble idol of Goddess Yamuna, alongside an idol of Goddess Ganga in white stone. A legend connects the place to the sage Asit Muni, who used to bathe in both the Yamuna and Ganga. Two hot springs, Surya Kund (boiling water) and Gauri Kund (tepid water), provide relief to tired trekkers.

During our recent Char Dham Yatra, my husband, our two teenage kids, and I visited the Yamunotri Temple. We stayed at the base camp in Jankichatti and trekked the steep 6 km to the temple, which took us around 6 hours with the help of a pony. The route was beautiful, but it was narrow, steep, and challenging.

The concrete steps made it even more difficult, and I think it would have been better if the path had remained earthen. Along the way, we enjoyed several stunning waterfalls.

I recommend visiting between the end of September and October to avoid the rush and rainy season. There's also a hot water spring where you can bathe before the darshan. Ponies and palanquins are available to help elderly or less mobile visitors.

A few months ago, I visited Yamunotri Temple, which is located 6 kilometers up the mountain. To get there, you can either walk or take a horse ride, and the trek itself feels like a bit of an adventure, especially with the afternoon rain that usually hits around 2:00 PM.One fascinating thing about Yamunotri is the hot water spring near the temple. People bring rice wrapped in cloth, boil it in the hot water, and take it home as a special offering. This is also the origin of the Yamuna River, and we had the chance to worship Goddess Yamuna there. The security is good, but accommodations are a bit far from the temple. The views along the way are stunning, and the experience is unforgettable. I highly recommend visiting this temple at least once in your life!

The trek was tiresome and the hotel was pathetic service. Darshan of Yamuna dham was although spiritual. The tour operator from Haridwar was nice and had offered great experience.

Puja at Yamunotri temple was a great experience. We stayed at budget hotel in Jankichatti. The trek was little tough but ponies were available there.

The trek of Yamunotri from Jankichatti is narrow and steep sometimes. Although Ponies are available, but me and my family didn't want to take any innocent animal help and trek up and down by foot only. As we took stay at Barkot, so we have to start early at morning and reach back to hotel by late evening. The services at Dham need to improve. The hotels are good and affordable.
