Established in 2000, Tribal Heritage Museum is a small cultural private museum located in Munsiyari town of Uttarakhand. The museum showcases the history, culture, traditions and lifestyle of Bhotia people who are ethno-linguistic group of people residing in the upper Himalayan valleys of the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions of Uttarakhand.

Send Enquiry for Tour PackagesThe museum houses various artifacts including household items, wooden utensils, bags made of Yak skin, brass hookah which offers a glimpse into the Bhotia culture which has all but faded.
The museum’s owner and curator Sher Singh Pangtey has spend over 15 years collecting the artifacts from the villages of Bhotia people. Some of the important artifacts at the museum like bowls, kettles, saucers, cooking pots, spoons, dispensers, and vanity boxes made of strong and durable wood from the Shangar tree. Apart from that, visitors can also find pens made form mud as well as the unique Tibetan brick tea, dried Himalayan flowers. Few unique items that are at display at the museum are the jewelry made of bear’s nails and handmade soaps and brushes.

Tribal Heritage Museum is located at the residence of Mr. Pangtey which is situated in the Nanasen village, located just 2 kms way from the main market of Munsiyari town. Buses and shared cabs are available on daily basis towards Munsiyari from nearby places. While Kathgodam is nearest railway station is located 278 kms from Madkot, tourists can also deboard at Tanakpur railway station. Pantnagar is the closest airport from the village situated at a distance of 310 kms.
