The Shimla-Kalka Toy Train stretch is a UNESCO World Heritage property. The 96 km long track goes through in excess of a hundred passages, 800 extensions, and viaducts. A ride in the toy train that interfaces Shimla and Kalka is one of the most sought-after experiences. The Barog tunnel is the longest passage runner in transit and requires around three minutes to cross. It is a fascinating experience.

Send Enquiry for Tour PackagesKalka Shimla Toy Train is perhaps the best mode of transport to explore the rich colonial history of the hill station alongside a variety of top-notch cafés, bars, and shops arranged at the edge of the Mall Road and the Ridge. Imagine the track wandering through lush green mountains, scenic, foggy, while you sit by the window, with your headphones connected. The most picturesque stretches are along the Kaushalya river, Koti, Barog, Kanoh, and Jabli.
When India was ruled by Britishers, Shimla (prior called Simla) was formally declared as the summer capital of the British Empire. During that period, there was no good connectivity to reach Shimla. Whatever route was available, it was hazardous, dangerous, and used to consume a lot of time.
So, to give simple and speedy access to Shimla, Britishers began the Kalka Shimla narrow-gauge train in November 1903. Lord Curzon enjoyed the first train ride and since then, the train has been running on an ordinary basis, except for the maintenance breaks in between.
The 18 stations it covers are: Kalka, Taksal, Gumman, Koti, Sonwara, Dharampur, Kumarhatti, Barog, Solan, Salogra, Kandaghat, Kanoh, Kathleegat, Shoghi, Taradevi, Jutoh, Summer Hill and Shimla. At every station, the train halts for some time, so passengers can relish the taste of local food along with enjoying tea and snacks on the way.
The Kalka Shimla Toy Train starts its journey from Kalka railway station and starts covering a track length of 96 km to reach Shimla, which is nestled amidst the beautiful hills and mystical woods.
The most refreshing part of the journey is the experience of overlooking the mesmerizing sights, breathing in the fresh air, basking in the pleasant atmosphere, admiring the lush greenery, dancing to the tunes of birds chirping and grazing around the track.
