This lake was earlier known as Khudariya Tal and was renamed as Sukha Tal because the entire water from this lake was drained in the extreme region of the Nainital Lake.
Sukhatal can be easily approachable as it is located at a distance of 41 km from Kathgodam and 1 km uphill from the Mall Road. The lake is situated at a favourable distance of 1 km from St. John Church and 2 km from Raj Bhavan in Nainital.
