This trek is named Sar Pass because trekkers have to pass by a glacial lake. Sar Pass trek is situated in Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh. Sar Pass trekking trail provides trekkers with a range of experiences, including forests, quaint villages, meadows, and snow-covered mountains.
Sar Pass trek offers you a chance to experience the majestic views of the spectacular snowcapped peaks. The trek to Sar officially begins in Kasol, a town well-known for its pretty coniferous forest and mountain streams. The difficulty level of the Sar Pass trek is graded as easy to moderate. So, this trek is for beginners, or family, or school tours. The first time can easily do this trek.
Day 1: Arrival in Kasol
Day 2: Kasol - Grahan village (2350 mts, 8 kms Trek)
Day 3: Grahan - Min Thach (3400 mts, 7 kms Trek)
Day 4: Min Thach - Nagaru (3800 mts, 9 kms Trek)
Day 5: Nagaru - Sar Pass - Bishkeri (4182 mts, 13 kms Trek)
Day 6: Bishkeri - Barshaini - Manikaran/Kasol (10 kms Trek)
On an average any trekking company or tour operator will charge you around Rs 5000 to Rs 9500 per person for the trek from Kasol to Kasol. The price for the Sar Pass trek depends on the group size, peak season time and services offered like quality of food, quality of camping and trekking gears, experience of guide.
Day 1: Arrival in Kasol
Arrive in Kasol and take a hotel/homestay or campsite. You can either stoll around, do shopping and preparation for trek, or even visit Manikaran. Night stay in Kasol.
Day 2: Kasol - Grahan village (2350 mts, 8 kms Trek)
After early morning breakfast you can start the trek from Kasol. The trail leads through lush green dense forest, streams and waterfalls. Initially the trail is easy but soon it will through challenges such as rocky and steep path along with crossing the Grahan Nallah. As we get closer to the Grahan Village the trail becomes pretty steep for a while and the village is visible. The campsite at Grahan is located near to the village and is surrounded by the Rhododendron trees. Grahan village is as ancient as hundreds of years. One can charm traditional houses beautiful evenings and take pics of the locals near the camp.
Day 3: Grahan - Min Thach (3400 mts, 7 kms Trek)
After breakfast we will depart from Grahan for another 7 hours of trek to reach Min Thach (our next campsite). The trail to Min Thach is usually used by the locals to take their livestock to higher pastures. The trail offers great range of flora and fauna birds, insects etc. As we go higher the trail becomes steeper and leads into the woods. The trail through the forest opens up to a grassy patch of land known as meadows. The Min Thach is located on the hillock and is surrounded by the flat rocks. The sunset and sunrises at this camp offers great views.
Day 4: Min Thach - Nagaru (3800 mts, 9 kms Trek)
After early breakfast, we will resume our trek to Nagaru. The trail to Nagaru will be mostly steep which climbs through pastoral forests to snow covered meadows, which makes it little difficult and time consuming. As you climb higher the air becomes thinner and you might face little altitude sickness such as headache, dizziness. Do follow the instructions of your trek leader or guide, keep drinking enough water to avoid AMS.
While getting closer to the camp chilling winds hits on your face, that realizes one of the altitude gained. The surroundings become more open and broad at these heights. It is the coldest campsite of the whole trek because of the gusty winds. The temperature can go below zero at nights. Once you reach the campsite at Nagaru one would experience picturesque views of magnificent mountains across the Parvati Valley. Enjoy the sunset painting the sky with different colours and the night full of stars at this beautiful campsite.
Day 5: Nagaru - Sar Pass - Bishkeri (4182 mts, 13 kms Trek)
Today is the most important and longest trekking days in this Sar Pass Trek. After early morning breakfast we will start our trek which is steep and covered with snow. After climbing the Nagaru ridge, the trail is moderate. Climbing higher to the pass offers majestic views of the stunning meadows and towering peaks of Parvati valley. Reaching at the top of the Sar pass gives a feeling of satisfaction by looking at the mighty Himalayan snow capped peaks green meadows and the trail below. One can spend some time at the Sar pass having his packed lunch and taking pics.
After the pass there is a great slope ideal for sliding which takes one a kilometer far within minutes, this is best part of this trek. Then continue trekking down on gentler slopes through rhododendron trees till the Bishkeri Thach. After a long tiring day the lush green meadows, wildflowers and variety of birds at Bishkeri can rejuvenate your body and mind with energy. Your night stay will be at Bishkeri campsite.
Day 6: Bishkeri - Barshaini - Manikaran/Kasol (10 kms Trek)
The trail from Bishkeri to Barshaini is mixed with downhill to moderate. On this route one has to be careful walking each step on the slope. Again walking slow and steady will help one to approach the roadhead easily. Many little streams will pass by the trail. After few hours of mesmerizing forest trek you will reach at Pulga village. From there moderate walk to Tulga village. Then cross the Parvati river and climb for a while to reach Barshaini. From Barshaini you can take bus or taxi to reach Manikaran/Kasol.
