Sankri Weather Guide

Winter (December to February)

  • Temperature: -4°C to 7°C
  • Weather: Very cold with frequent snowfall, especially in January. The village and surrounding trails are often covered in snow, creating a winter wonderland. This season is ideal for snow trekking with Kedarkantha being a popular trek during winter. However, cold weather gear is essential for anyone planning to visit or trek in this period.

Spring (March to May)

  • Temperature: 1°C to 20°C
  • Weather: Pleasant and gradually warming up, with blooming rhododendrons and clear skies. Mornings and evenings remain cool, but daytime temperatures are comfortable. Spring is the start of the trekking season for Har ki Dun and other nearby treks. The landscape is colorful and lush, making it a perfect time for outdoor activities like trekking, camping, and photography.

Summer (June to August)

  • Temperature: 12°C to 22°C
  • Weather: Warm and humid, with occasional rain due to the monsoon in July and August. The region is lush and green during this time, but trekking trails may be muddy and slippery. Summer is a good time for trekking, though you should be prepared for rain. Kedarkantha and other treks can still be attempted, but waterproof gear is recommended.

Monsoon (July to September)

  • Temperature: 10°C to 20°C
  • Weather: Moderate temperatures, but heavy rainfall can make the trails difficult to navigate. Landslides and slippery paths are common during this season. Monsoon isn’t ideal for trekking due to trail conditions and safety risks, though the area becomes incredibly scenic with lush greenery. It's more suited for those interested in witnessing the natural beauty, but caution is advised.

Autumn (October to November)

  • Temperature: 1°C to 18°C
  • Weather: Cool and dry, with clear skies and crisp air. The monsoon rains have passed, making the trails stable and ideal for trekking. The nights start getting cold, especially by November. Autumn is one of the best times for trekking in Sankri. Popular treks like Har ki Dun and Bali Pass are perfect in these conditions, with great visibility and pleasant temperatures.

Best Time to Visit Sankri

Though Sankri Village is all weather destination, but due to road conditions you can skip the monsoons period (for the months - July, August and mid September). The best time to visit Sankri is from March to November. Spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) offer the most pleasant weather for trekking and outdoor activities. While summer is good, the monsoon season can make trails challenging. Winter offers the unique experience of snow trekking, especially for the Kedarkantha trek, though it can get quite cold.
