Located in the Ukhimath tehsil in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, Ransi Village is a quaint village lying peacefully amidst the beautifully structured terraced fields, dense green forests, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. The beautiful houses are mostly one or two floors with slate roofs.

The village serves as the base camp for trek to Madyamaheshwar Temple, one of the Panch Kedars. A scenic 16 kms trek through thick forests, beautiful streams, and captivating waterfalls takes you to the temple.

Madmaheshwar Temple closed for winters

The portals of Madmaheshwar temple, second among the Panch Kedar have been closed for winter on 20 Nov 2024. Baba Madmaheshwar's palanquin left for the winter seat of Panchkedar Omkareshwar Temple, Ukhimath. On November 25, the doli will be seated at Omkareshwar temple for winter worship. This year over 20,000 devotees visited the second Kedar which opened on May 22, 2024. The doli will reach Goundar village for its first overnight stay. Next day, the doli will pass by Ransi village to stay overnight at Giriya village. On 23 Nov, the palanquin will be seated at Omkareshwar Temple, the winter seat.

  • During monsoon seasons, the route leading to Ransi Village may get blocked and is not recommended.
  • Though you can enjoy your winters in Ransi Village, you won’t be able to trek to Madhyamaheshwar Temple and other areas going through it as the trekking route to these regions are closed during winters due to heavy snowfall.

Famous Tourist Places nearby Ransi Village

  • Ukhimath: is the nearest town from Ransi Village. During winters, when the route to Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar Temple remains closed due to heavy snowfall, Ukhimath houses the idols from these temples and all the puja rituals are continued in Ukhimath. The ancient Ukhimath town takes you back to its own time and is a must-visit.
  • Kalimath: is a sacrad temple dedicated to Goddess Kali and located 42 km from Ransi Village.
  • Deoria Tal: is an emerald lake seated at an elevation of 2,438 m. The 2 km trek to Deoria Tal starts from Sari Village which is located at a distance of about 30 km from Ransi Village.
  • Chopta: A scenic hamlet at a distance of 50 km from Ransi Village, Chopta serves as the base camp for Tunganath and Chandrashila trek. Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world and also one of the Panch Kedars.

Best time to visit Ransi Village

The best time to visit Ransi Village is during summer and post-monsoon months. The summer months from April to June are very pleasant with clear skies, blooming fauna, and safe route. The post-monsoon months from September – October are full of lush greenery with an air of freshness.

If you are not interested in trekking, then winters too are an ideal time to simply enjoy the beautiful weather of Ransi Village while sipping a warm cup of tea snuggled in your blanket.
