Pancheshwar Mahadev Temple

Pancheshwar Mahadev Temple is a sacred temple of Lord Shiva located at foothills of the India - Nepal border, on confluence of river Sharda and river Kali near Lohaghat in Champawat district. This temple is also known as Chaumu (Isht Devta) by local people. Here locales worship the Jaat of Chaumu. The temple is mostly visited during the Chaitra Navratri, a festival celebrated in months of March-April by Kumaoni as well as Garhwali people.

The temple is a sacred shrine of Lord Shiva. A beautiful idol of Shiva and a shivling is at the temple with Naag Devta. A dip on the confluence of rivers is considered to be very sacred. Pancheshwar Temple is located at beautiful place surrounded by natural beauty of the surrounding forests, streams and the high mountains with little flowers and different kind of Flora and Fauna.

Pancheshwar Mahadev Temple - Protector of Animals

It is belief of local livelihood about the temple that Lord Shiva protects the animals of villagers nearby. The diety of the temple, God Shiva is offered with Bells and milk as a Bhog. Jaat of Chaumu Lord comes from the Sail village situated at 5 kms from the temple. Some tourists attraction near the temple are Chamdeval (8 km), Rasul (12 km) and Pullu (5 km).

Tourist who want to see the real and unique culture of devotees of Kumaon towards the Lord Shiva, can visit any time during the month of March to October as it is considered to best month. In winter this place is too cold and tourist from different region may feel uncomfortable here.

During the month of April- July and September to October, tourists and locals are attracted for fishing in river Maha Kali, Sharda and Sarju. Trophy of Great Head is awarded for the ultimate fishing in these region.

While on this exciting fishing trip you may visit some religious and sacred temples in the region devoted to Goddess of the mountains. Visitors can also capture the impressive and unforgettable white peaks of the Himalayas.

Pancheshwar Dam

Another exciting tourist attraction to the temple is a Pancheshwar Dam which is Built on river Mahakali basin with 6480 MW power generating capicity and 12,333 GWh annualy. This dam is reserve with 65 kms upstream in Baitadi and Dharchula. This place can be visited from morning 10 am to evening 5 pm. Visiters are prohibited to visit near the river because of the marsh near the river sinks.

Tourist can avail a taxi and car, coming to this place (60 kms) from Champawat bus/ taxi station and then a 200 meter walking to reach at the temple. Nearest bus Station is Lohaghat bus station(37 kms) and Champawat main bazaar bus station. (60.4 kms). Railway Station nearest to this temple is Tanakpur Railway station (124 kms) and the Airport to reach Pancheshwar Temple is Pantnagar.
