The folklore goes that King Nala and his beautiful wife, Queen Damyanti lived happily in their royal place. The queen who was known for her unparallel beauty chose King Nala over the Gods. Many opposed her decision saying that she has angered the gods by marrying a human and were envious of the couple’s togetherness. Soon after, the queen started having unusual dreams every night about a spirit asking her the same question, “Can I come inside”. One night the queen replied ‘Yes’ and the evil spirit entered her body and their beautiful palace collapsed like a pack of cards into the lake, now known as Nal Damyanti Tal.
The trekking route to Nal Damyanti Tal is a bit jagged and goes through the kaccha-pakka road. The scenery changes with every step you take. One can see the old houses, showcasing traditional Kumaoni architecture along with the modern flats that are up for sale. If you move further, you can see Sattal, the cluster of seven lakes.
The ideal time to visit Nal Damyanti Tal is between the months of March to May.

Nal Damyanti Tal is a sapphire like lake snuggled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. It is located at a distance of 2 km from Bhimtal Lake in Nainital district and hardly takes 25 minutes to reach on foot. The lake city, Bhimtal is about 20 km from Nainital and around 315 km from Delhi.
By Road: Being a popular tourist attraction, Bhimtal is well connected by motorable roads with major cities of Uttarakhand. From ISBT, Anand Vihar you can take the bus to Kathgodam or Nainital. Taxis to Bhimtal are easily available from major destinations of Kumaon region like Almora, Nainital, and Kathgodam.
By Rail: Kathgodam railway station at 20 km from Bhimtal and about 295 km from Delhi is the nearest railhead. There are two trains running two and fro from Delhi to Kathgodam. The local transport to Bhimtal can be easily available from Kathgodam and Haldwani.
By Air: Pantnagar airport in Udham Singh Nagar district located at a distance of 55 km from Bhimtal is the nearest domestic airport. Taxis to Bhimtal and Haldwani can be easily available from this airport.
