The picturesque Masar Tal is cocooned in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. It is perched at an astounding elevation of 3000 metres above sea level.
This lake is located below the Masar Top and on the left flank of Doodhganga Bamak (W), en route Mayali Pass.

The known cities situated near this lake are Ghuttu and Ghansali. The best time to visit this lake is between June to September.
Masar Tal is one of the most isolated lakes of Garhwal region. The eye captivating scenery around the ravishing Masar Tal makes it a popular trek. This lake is situated en-route to Sahastra Tal on Balganga Valley, which is made from two bowl-shaped lakes.
The area around the lake has sprawling alpine green meadows also referred to as ‘Bugyal’ in the local language. These meadows are covered with varied wildflowers, on which walking with bare feet feels like drifting on the clouds.

*earlier it was 9 kms trek from Budha Kedar but with newly constructed road till Pinswar village, now the trekking is reduced to 4 kms only.
Note: Masar Tal is also written as Masartal, Mahsartal lake, Mahsar tal and is famous for its trekking route and religious importance among the locals.
