Maharajke (Maharaja) Park is a popular tourist spot near Pithoragarh town in the namesake district of Uttarakhand. The park was constructed to commemorate the battle of Maharajke post in Kashmir during the1965 Indo-Pak war.

The park is laden with beautiful trees that perfectly capture the natural beauty of the region. Apart from that, a striking memorial to honor the fallen heroes of Kumaon regiment during the battle of Maharajke also stands tall in the park.

History

On the night of September 7, 1965 amidst all the gunfire and explosions, the valiant soldiers of 9 Kumaon battalion fought, subdued and captured the Pakistani army stronghold at Maharajke village in Jammu and Kashmir under the command of Capt. V K Bogra. Naik Ganesh Dutt of the 9 Kumaon was awarded the Vir Chakra for his role in capturing Maharjke against Pakistani defenses.
