The Katarmal Surya Temple is a 9th-century temple built by Katarmalla, a Katyuri King, exhibiting the architectural style of the ancient artisans. This Hindu temple is perched at an elevation of 2,116 meters above sea level and is situated at a distance of 19 kms from Almora.

However, after the theft of a 10th-century idol, the carved wooden doors and panels were transported to the National Museum, Delhi. When the first sun rays fall on Katarmal Surya Temple it enlightens an ancient idol of a sun god called Vraddhaditya.
