It is situated 26 kms from the Bageshwar town on the route to Pithoragarh. A historically significant town, Kanda is famous for its Devi temple known as Kalika temple or Kalishan. The region is a paradise for nature lovers and boasts of beautiful landscapes and scenic beauty which include lush green tea gardens, mountains wherever the eyes wander.

History of Kanda Village Bageshwar

From 7th to 13th century, Kanda was under the reign of Katyuri kings who ruled the Kumaon region in its entirety. It was lost to Mankoti kings of Gangoli when the Katyuri kings lost power in the region. During the 16th century, Chand dynasty annexed Kanda region and merged it with its rest of the affluent Kumaon kingdom.

R.O.S.E (Rural Organization for Social Elevation)

ROSE is a small self-help group set up in Kanda founded by the local resident Jeevan Lal Verma. ROSE encourages rural tourism by providing a full Kumaoni experience in the hills of Uttarakhand that is not available at luxury resorts. The tourists are accommodated at the host’s traditional guest house and are served local Kumaoni cuisine to satiate their taste buds. The tourists feel part of the family and partake in volunteering activities.

Location & How to Reach Kanda

Kanda hamlet is located 26 kilometres away from the main Bageshwar town. Tourists can reach Kanda village by travelling from Bageshwar towards Pithoragarh via NH 309A. Shared taxis/cabs are also available from Bageshwar and Chaukori that passes through Kanda. Nearest railway station to Kanda is Kathgodam Railway Station located 74 kms while the nearest airport is Pant Nagar (210 kms).
