Beliefs and Mythology

It is believed that standing whole night with Ghee Lamps in hand and praying to Lord Shiva on Kartik Chaturdashi, the childless couple get children.

One of the Legend says that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva with thousand lotus flowers at this place. But he found that that he is short of one lotus flower.  Shiva tested Rama's devotion by stealing one of the lotus flower, and Lord Rama was ready to replace the lost flower with one of his eyes, thus the place known as "Kamal (Lotus) Nayan (Eye)" or Kamaleshwar.. On seeing this Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him with Sudarshan Chakra.

There is another legend on same lines, but in this Lord Vishnu offered 1000 lotus flowers while praying to Lord Shiva to get Sudarshan Chakra to defeat demons. One of the lotus flowers was missing, as Lord Shiva was testing Lord Vishnu’s devotion. Vishnu decided to replace it with one of his lotus shaped eyes (known as Kamala Netra). Pleased with Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva appeared before him and gave him the Sudarshan Chakra with which he defeated demons.
