Tourists and wildlife enthusiasts can easily spot animals such as leopards, monitor lizards, elephants, sloth bear, chital, musk deer, barking deer. Few people are lucky enough to spot the Bengal tiger basking in the afternoon sun.
There are three Forest Rest House (FRH) located in the Kalagarh Tiger Reserve in places like Mudiyapani, Halduparao, Rathuadhab, Kanda and Lohar Chaur.
The best time to visit Kalagarh Tiger Reserve is between the months of October and March. The national parks remain close during the summer season as well as during the monsoon which is the breeding season.
Kalagarh Tiger Reserve lies in the scenic Pano valley in the Lansdowne region of Uttarakhand. In order to reach Kalagarh, one has to reach Duggada. From here the road diverges – one goes uphill towards Lansdowne hill station while the other reaches the forest trails to the Tiger Reserve. The nearest railway station is at Kotdwara (14kms) and nearest airport is Jolly Grant at Dehradun, some 119 kms away.
