The Khumbu region lies in northeastern Nepal and is part of the Solu-Khumbu district in the Sagarmatha Zone. It is home to Mount Everest (Sagarmatha) and the Everest Base Camp (EBC), as well as the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fly to Lukla:
Nearest airport to access Khumbu region is located in Lukla. There are numerous flights flying the Kathmandu - Lukla route, though with a much reduced service during the off-season months.
Sita is considered to be one of the more reliable airlines flying this route and operates two flights every morning from Kathmandu Domestic Airport at 07:00 and 08:20, with return flights at 07:40 and 09:00. Flights from Kathmandu take around 25 minutes. Be aware that during the summer rainy season there may be substantial delays, and even a wait of one week is not uncommon.
Note: Flights can be affected by weather, so keep some buffer days in your itinerary.
Trek to Khumbu:
Lukla marks the starting point of treks into the Khumbu region. Popular stops include: Phakding, Namche Bazaar (the main hub of the region), Tengboche, Everest Base Camp (EBC)
Alternative Route via Jiri: Reach Jiri by road from Kathmandu and start a longer trek (takes about 5–7 additional days to reach Lukla). Suitable for those who want a less crowded and scenic trek.
Khumbu by Helicopter:
For quicker access, private helicopter charters can be arranged from Kathmandu to Lukla or directly to Namche Bazaar.
By Road
There is a bus running between Kathmandu and Jiri. Some buses are going a bit further to Shivalaya. From here to Namche Bazaar it is about a six-day walk.
Another route tried entering from Jainagar, India, by train or bus. From Jainagar its about 1-1½ day by bus or jeep to Phaplu via Madar, Sirha, Mirchaya Ramnagar, Katari, Okhaldunga and Salleri. Phaplu to Ringmo and 5 days trek to Namche.
