How to Reach Chopta

Chopta is well-connected by road to major destinations within Uttarakhand. Regular buses operate from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Rudraprayag, and Srinagar, all accessible from Delhi’s ISBT Kashmiri Gate. However, there are no direct rail or air connections to Chopta. The nearest railway stations are Haridwar and Rishikesh, while the closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. From these locations, travelers can continue their journey to Chopta by road. Although direct buses to Chopta are unavailable, buses to Ukhimath, Guptkashi, or Gopeshwar can be taken, and from there, shared jeeps or taxis are available to reach Chopta.

By Road: Chopta is well-connected by motorable roads, making a taxi or personal vehicle the most convenient way to reach the region. Public transport does not provide direct access to Chopta, but you can travel by bus to nearby towns such as Ukhimath or Guptkashi, where taxis are readily available to take you the rest of the way. We highly recommend using a taxi to explore the entire Chopta area. 

Regular bus services run from Rishikesh to Rudraprayag, while limited buses are available from Rishikesh to Ukhimath, primarily in the early morning. Buses from Haridwar to Rudraprayag also operate, though less frequently.

Chopta by Public Transport: Chopta is not connected with any public transport. The nearest places covered by public transport are Ukhimath and Guptkashi. You can get taxis from Guptkashi and Ukhimath.

Delhi to Chopta

If you're planning a trip from Delhi to Chopta, the best way to get there is by road, as direct bus services are unavailable. Start your journey by taking a bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate to either Ukhimath or Guptkashi. If you happen to miss those buses, don’t worry—you can catch a bus to Rudraprayag and then hire a taxi or take shared jeeps to reach Chopta. Buses from Delhi typically operate between 8 PM and 11 PM, so it’s a good idea to check the timings with Uttarakhand Roadways in advance.

If you prefer the flexibility of your own vehicle, you can follow the NH7 route, which takes about 10 hours to reach Chopta from Delhi. The drive is truly rewarding, as you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys along the way. Make sure to take your time and enjoy the scenic beauty during your journey.

Haridwar railway station is situated 230 kms before Chopta on NH58 and is well connected by railway networks with major destinations of India. Chopta to Kedarnath

Traveling from Chopta to Kedarnath is a beautiful and spiritual journey of approximately 80 km, which takes around 3 hours by road to reach the base point in Gaurikund. To travel from Chopta to Kedarnath, begin by taking a taxi or shared jeep to Sonprayag, located about 14 km away from Kedarnath. If you're using your own vehicle or public transport, you'll need to change vehicles at Sonprayag. From there, catch a shared jeep to Gaurikund, which is the starting point for your trek. The trek to Kedarnath covers approximately 10 km and typically takes about 6 to 8 hours to complete.

Reaching Chopta in Winters: Reaching Chopta in winters can be a bit of an adventure. When there’s snow all around, the roads usually get closed just before Chopta, anywhere from 1 km to 8 km out, depending on how much snow has piled up. Though there are snow cutter machines to clear the roads, it is recommend to drive or reach Chopta during daytime only. If you have hotel bookings in Chopta during winters, try to book hotels which are before Chopta, park the vehicle in a safe area and then walk to reach the property.
