Dodital cocooned amidst the benedictory pines is a fresh water lake of Uttarakhand. Tucked away at an astounding altitude of 3,310 metres above sea level in Uttarkashi. Dodital is a home to varied aquatic species, flora and fauna. The lake has a circumference of 1.5 km. Dodital is the source of Asi Ganga river, which merges with Bhagirathi river near Gangotri. This crystalline fresh water lake in the Garhwal Himalayas offers contentment in the tranquil Himalayan vistas.

Hindu mythology says, Dodital is the birthplace of Lord Ganesha:

Dodital is also known as “Dhundital” meaning ‘Ganesha Ka Tal’ or ‘Lake of Ganesha’. As per Hindu mythology, it is believed that Dodital is the birth place of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is said that Lord Ganesha chose this lake as his abode.  There is a beautiful temple located on the corner of the lake which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
