Nestled in the foothills of the Shivaliks, the Dehradun Zoo is a home to varied animal species such as two horned Deers, Leopards, Neelgai, Emu, Ostrich,Turkey, Crocodiles and Turtle. The aviary in Dehradun Zoo hosts several species of birds including Parrot, Peacock, Owl, Parakeet and Macaw to name a few.The park also features a play area for kids, trails, benches, canteen, parking space and restrooms.
The habitat for various other animals including snakes and a couple of other water animals is under construction and will be added soon.
An aquarium named as Aquatic World was recently opened at Dehradun Zoo which now houses several rare fish species. Some of the fish species that can be seen in Dehradun Zoo fish aquarium are Silver Shark fish, Oscar fish, Goldfish, Dollar fish, Zebra Danio fish, Jaguar fish, Texas Cichlid, Buffer Fish, Green Terror fish and Aligator fish. While paying a visit to Dehradun Zoo, one must visit the Aquarium which is no less than a treat for the eyes.
The entry fee for Deharadun Zoo Aquarium is Rs. 50 per person.
One of the most visited places of Doon, the Dehradun Zoo is one such place where you can have an insight of the wildlife thriving inside the park. You’ll be greeted with the views of the coy deer basking in the sun, their off-springs munching on the fresh hay, the owl sitting in their meditative pose on the overreaching branches of the trees and the notorious rabbits seeking your attention with their velvety eyes. Paid Parking is available at Dehradun Zoo. The parking rates for Two Wheeler and Four Wheeler is Rs 10 and Rs 30 respectively on weekdays, while the rates on weekend are Rs. 15 and Rs 40 respectively.
Summers (March to October) : Opens at 8:30 AM. Closes at 6:00 PM.
Winters (November to February) : Opens at 9:00 AM. Closes at 5:00 PM
Dehradun Zoo is located in Mussoorie Road, Malsi ( 9 km from Dehradun Clock Tower).
Dehradun Zoo on Dehradun-Mussoorie road is located about 9 km away from the city centre, Clock Tower. It can be easily accessed by bus or auto. You can take the Vikram no. 1 which will drop you at Mussoorie diversion; a few minutes of walk from here will lead you to the zoo. Dehradun railway station situated at 11 km away is the nearest railhead. Jolly Grant at 37 km away is the closest airport to the zoo.
