A three-day survey to count aquatic animals, including crocodiles, gharials, and otters, has commenced in the Kalagarh region of Corbett Tiger Reserve.

On the first day, Monday, officials carried out the census in the Afzalgarh Barrage and Saddle Dam area under the Kalagarh Range, following directives from senior Corbett Tiger Reserve authorities.

Corbett National Park in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, along with other tourist spots, will be closed to visitors during Holi. The park administration has announced a two-day closure on March 13 and 14. During this period, Corbett Jungle Safari and night stay services will be unavailable, requiring tourists to adjust their travel plans accordingly.

The Dhikala tourist zone in Corbett National Park remains the first choice for wildlife enthusiasts seeking tiger sightings. With a thriving tiger population, it offers the highest chances of spotting these majestic big cats.

The zone is home to over 260 tigers, more than 1,200 elephants, leopards, bears, deer, and a diverse range of wildlife. Additionally, Dhikala hosts over 600 bird species, making it a paradise for nature lovers.

In a significant move for tiger conservation in Uttarakhand, preparations are complete to transfer the fifth tiger from Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) to Rajaji National Park in Dehradun. Previously, four tigers (two males and two females) were successfully relocated and have adapted well to their new habitat.

The Forest Department launched the Tiger Reintroduction Project in 2020, aiming to strengthen the tiger population in Rajaji while maintaining ecological balance. Officials confirm that the relocated tigers are thriving and breeding naturally, further supporting conservation efforts in the region.

Tourists from various parts of India come to celebrate Christmas and New Year in Jim Corbett National Park. All zones of Corbett Park are packed before Christmas and New Year, day safari and night stay guest house are full till 5 January. The Corbett hotels and resorts are also packed almost 70 percent from 25 December to 1 January.

In Uttarakhand, the new safari routes - Mohan range (Almora) & Kaladhungi heritage zone (Ramnagar) in Kumaon division- were opened by the forest department recently. Tourists can go for safari in both the new tourism zone. In both the new tourism zones, wildlife such as tigers, elephants, leopards, and deer may be sighted, apart from the world of birds and butterflies.

After the monsoon season of Jim Corbett National Park, now almost all the tourist zones are gradually opening. After the monsoon season, Bijrani tourist zone of Jim Corbett Park opened for tourists at 6 am on Tuesday.

Another new safari zone is going to start in Jim Corbett National Park, in which one can do safari by gypsy. The special thing is that from this zone, tourists will be able to know in detail about the famous hunter Edward James Jim Corbett. Ramnagar Forest Division is going to start a new Corbett Heritage Safari Zone in Kaladhungi area.

The number of elephants in Corbett National Park and Rajaji National Park has increased to more than 2000.  Many programs are being organized for their conservation.

World Tiger Day is observed every year on July 29th to raise awareness about tiger conservation and to promote efforts to protect these magnificent animals and their natural habitats. Currently, it is estimated that the Corbett Tiger Reserve is home to approximately 250 to 300 tigers.

The Governor said that forests and wildlife are the invaluable assets of Uttarakhand, it is the responsibility of all to preserve them.

The Supreme Court, while allowing the establishment of tiger safaris in the peripheral and buffer zones, has imposed stringent conditions to ensure the protection of wildlife and the environment. The move is to ensure a delicate balance between promoting tourism and preserving the integrity of the sensitive ecosystems within the Jim Corbett National Park.

Although access to central areas is now limited, visitors can still opt for jeep safaris in the buffer zones. These alternative safaris promise exciting adventures and chances to encounter wildlife.

In 2022-23, Corbett Park welcomed 6,100 foreign tourists. This number has significantly increased to 9,000 in 2023-24. As a result, the earnings of Corbett National Park have nearly doubled, rising from ?13.13 crores in 2022-23 to ?23.24 crores in 2023-24.
