After the epic war of Mahabharata, when the Pandavas went on a lookout for Lord Shiva to get rid of their sins. They saw Rishi Balkhily at Bhrigu Parvat. Rishi told them to visit the confluence of the two rivers to meet an old man who was meditating there.
When the Pandavas reached there the old man vanished and a huge Shivling appeared. The sage told them to embrace the Shivling in order to free themselves from their sins committed.
