The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali also known as Dakshin Kali and Lord Shiva and was erected during the Katyuri dynasty that ruled the region from 8th to 12th century. From the vantage of the temple, one can also get a panoramic view of some of the prominent peaks in Uttarakhand such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Panchachuli to name a few.

Badhangarhi temple is located 8 kms from Gwaldam. Devotees and visitors can cover the first 4 kms on road upto a place known as Taal while the rest 4 kms requires one to travel by foot. From Taal one treks uphill to Binatoli. The Badhangarhi temple along with temples of Goddess Bhagwati and Dakshin Kali are located just few meters ahead of Binatoli.
