Arrive at Sankri Village, meet our host and rest at our Homestay in Sankri (Meraki Sankri). If time permits you can explore the village or just walk around Sankri for a peaceful evening.
We have intentionally kept 1stday of the trek short and sweet so that you get well acquainted with the local surroundings and the terrain rather than giving a hard push with hundreds of trekkers to get to Jud aka Talab.
We get up at around 7-8. After breakfast we go for a village walk to Saur. Get back to the homestay and start the trek around noon when the sun will keep us warm. Since the temperature dips below freezing point in Sankri range during winter season, it is important that we get acquainted with snow and higher altitude gradually, specially for those hiking in snow for the first time.
There is a steep climb involved as soon as you take your steps off the road. The trail goes through the beautiful forest of oak, birch & deodar. The sound of some minor streams flowing through rocks will please your ears. The trail will be covered in snow at some stretches and you will come across a couple of shacks to replenish with tea.
We head to the highest point of Posla where our beautiful wooden hut will be waiting eagerly to host you for the night. It overlooks the Sankri range and Swargarohini Peak and is perched at a picture perfect setting. Staying in the wooden hut will keep you warm and give you decent space to move around. A perfect day to acclimatize none the less. (Inclusions: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After some good rest and less exertion the day before, it will be a real pleasure to walk the trail passing through tree line and snow laden meadow patches in between. We start early at around 8 am to head to Kedarkantha Base Camp via Hargaon.
After roughly walking for 3 hours you’ll reach Lower Kedarkantha Base Camp. This campsite is often occupied when there is heavy snowfall at the upper area of Kedarkantha, the summit of Kedarkantha is clearly visible from this region. There are a couple of shepherd huts in this region which are often used as kitchen area. Continue walking uphill through a patch of dense forest and after climbing for an hour you’ll reach Kedarkantha Base Camp perched at an elevation of 3300mts above sea level.
Watch out for the sunset as it is a spectacularly beautiful sight to see the mountains painted with golden hues. (Inclusions: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Start trekking early from Kedarkantha Base Camp because it is The Summit Day. The climb is moderately steep and the views are rewarding. The trail pierces through the oak forest and opens up to a straight climb through northern ridge. In roughly less than three hours time you’ll reach Kedarkantha Summit from Kedarkantha Base Camp, a lot of this depends on your speed, the queue on the summit and the weather.
A wide view of Himalayan peaks will greet you at the summit. Gangotri & Yamunotri ranges are also distinctly visible from the peak. The Kedarkantha Summit is situated at an altitude of 3900mts above sea level, equivalent to several peaks in the French Alps. We try and spend a good time at the summit if the weather is clear.
Descend to Base Camp for lunch and start the walk towards Posla via Juda ka Talab. (Inclusions: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After early morning breakfast you can trek down to Sankri. Our trekking services will end at Sankri. You can drive back or take bus to Dehradun or you can extend your stay in Sankri at an additional cost.
Extend your stay in Meraki Sankri @ Rs 1500 per person per night with Breakfast and Dinner.

Why we prefer private and small groups? We love to trek in smaller private groups as we believe that it gives the best ambience to experience the Himalayan spirituality, serenity, solitude and rawness. Small groups are also eco friendly, less noisy, safe, friendly, easy to manage and more caring towards each other. Most importantly, private groups are more focused towards their objective which is enjoy being in the nature. We specialize in arranging customized private groups catering to the specific needs.
