Your adventure commences as you make your way to Sonmarg from Srinagar, a picturesque drive of approximately 3 hours. In Srinagar, you can explore its charming gardens, serene lakes, and iconic houseboats. If you're inclined, consider a memorable Shikara ride on Dal Lake or a leisurely stroll through the enchanting Mughal Gardens. The day concludes with an overnight stay at a campsite in Sonmarg.
The trek begins with a 3-4 km hike from Sonmarg, passing through maple and pine forests alongside the Sindh River. You'll gradually make your way to Shekdur Range, offering captivating views of the Sonmarg Valley. The trail then descends to the snow-covered Shekdur Range before you head to Nichnai at 11,500 ft above sea level. Relax at the campsite, have dinner, and enjoy an overnight stay.
Start your day early and trek toward the Nichnai Pass, enjoying the lush valleys and the pristine beauty of the region. Cross the river and proceed along its banks to reach the Nichnai Pass, also known as the Vishansar Berry, situated at 13,500 ft above sea level. After descending, you'll encounter a meadow adorned with colorful flowers and a cascading waterfall. Continue the hike to Vishansar Lake, capturing views of the Himalayan Range and Vishansar Lake along the way. Enjoy an overnight camp stay by the lake.
Witness the Kishansar Peak casting its reflection on the azure lake waters. Hike to Kishansar Peak, ascend to the Gadsar Pass at 13,800 ft (the highest point of the trek), and descend through a flowery meadow to reach Gadsar Lake, adorned with exotic flowers and snow. Register at the nearest Army Camp to pass Gadsar and overnight by the lake.
Your day features varied terrains, including steep, flat, and uneven land. Reach the first of the Satsar lakes, a group of seven. Overnight by the first lake of Satsar.
Test your limits on this challenging day. Hike through rocky and boulder-strewn terrain, cross the Satsar lakes, and reach the Gangabal and Nundkol twin lakes, known for trout fishing. Pass through sharp, rocky trails, reach the Gadsar Lake, and complete formalities with the Army Camp. Overnight at Gadsar Lake.
The final day involves a trek from Gangabal through grassy land, pine forests, and a visit to Naranag Village in Ganderbal District. Consider a visit to Naranag Temple. Conclude your memorable journey with a drive back to Srinagar for your departure.
